토플라이팅 템플릿 & 고득점 팁 공개

오늘은 외국으로 대학을 가고 싶은 유학생은 누구나 다 봐야되는 시험인

 TOEFL, 그 중에서도 토플라이팅 섹션에 대해서 이야기해보고자 합니다.

 

2023년 7월부터 개정된 TOEFL에서는 **독립형(Independent Writing)**이 사라지고,

**수업토론형(Integrated Class Discussion Task)**이 새롭게 추가되었습니다. 

이 변화는 TOEFL Writing 섹션에서 **통합형(Integrated Writing)**을 더 강화하고, 

실제 수업 환경에서 이루어지는 토론과 관련된 토플라이팅 능력을 평가하는 방식으로 전환한 것입니다.

 

1.        통합형 (Integrated Writing Task)

이 과제는 기존과 동일하게, 읽기 지문과 강의를 바탕으로 한 요약 및 비교를 요구합니다. 

지문을 읽고 강의를 듣는 후, 두 자료에서 제시된 정보의 차이점을 비교하여 작성하는 형식입니다.

 

2.        수업토론형 과제 (Writing for an Academic Discussion)

새로운 과제로, 학생들이 대학 수업에서 토론에 참여하는 형식으로 글을 작성해야 합니다. 

제시된 주제에 대해 여러 학생들이 토론하는 상황을 가정하고, 

그들의 의견을 참고해 자신의 입장을 정리하여 쓰는 것이 이 과제의 핵심입니다.

 

이 수업토론형 과제는 단순한 의견 제시가 아니라, 다른 사람들의 의견을 평가하고 자신의 생각을 논리적으로 표현하는 능력을 평가합니다. 제시된 의견을 바탕으로 자신의 입장을 선택하고 그 이유를 설명하는 이 중요합니다.

 

전략:

1.        다른 학생들의 의견을 잘 반영하여 자신의 답안을 작성해야 합니다. 

그들의 의견을 무시하지 말고, 그것을 참고하면서 자신의 의견을 논리적으로 펼치는 것이 핵심입니다.

2.        구체적인 예시를 들어 자신의 주장을 뒷받침하는 것이 고득점의 요소입니다.

 개인 경험이나 논리적 근거를 바탕으로 설득력 있는 답변을 작성해야 합니다.

3.        구조적으로 명확한 을 작성하는 것이 중요합니다. 서론에서 자신의 입장을 명확히 제시하고, 

토플라이팅 본문에서 그 이유를 설명한 뒤, 결론에서 다시 한 번 요약하는 구조가 좋습니다.

 

예시를 통해서 직접 쓰면서 보여드리면 더 효과적일것 같아서 예시로 설명을 해보도록 하겠습니다.

수업토론형 예시 1

주제: "Students in a class discussion are debating

whether it is better to study alone or in a group.

Based on the opinions shared by two of your classmates, explain which study method you prefer and why."

제시된 의견:

-              Student A: "I think studying alone is better because

it allows me to focus more without distractions.

When I study alone, I can work at my own pace, and I don't have to worry about explaining things to others."

-              Student B: "I believe studying in a group is more beneficial

because we can help each other understand difficult concepts.

Explaining things to others also helps me learn better,

and group discussions often lead to new insights that I might not have thought of on my own."

1. 서론 (Introduction)

-              문제를 간략하게 소개하고, 

두 학생의 의견을 요약한 후 자신의 입장을 밝힙니다.

In the class discussion, two students presented different views on [topic].

One student, [Student A], believes that [summarize Student A's opinion].

On the other hand, [Student B] argues that [summarize Student B's opinion].

After considering both perspectives, I agree more with [Student A/B] because [brief reason].

 

예시: In the class discussion, two students presented different views on

whether it is better to study alone or in a group.

One student, Student A, believes that studying alone is better because it allows for more focus.

On the other hand, Student B argues that studying in a group is more beneficial due to collaboration.

After considering both perspectives, I agree more with Student B

because group study fosters deeper understanding and motivation.

2.   본문 1 (Body Paragraph 1) - 상대 의견 설명  평가

-              자신의 선택에 반대되는 토플라이팅 의견을 먼저 설명하고, 

그 한계나 약점을 지적합니다.

To begin with, I can understand why [Student A/B] prefers [explain Student A/B’s opinion].

They mention that [explain specific point from their argument].

While this point is valid to some extent, I believe it has certain limitations.

For example, [explain why this argument is weak or insufficient, providing reasons or personal examples].

 

예시: To begin with, I can understand why Student A prefers studying alone.

They mention that it helps them avoid distractions and work at their own pace.

While this point is valid to some extent, I believe it has certain limitations.

For example, when studying alone, it is easy to get stuck on difficult concepts,

and without anyone to ask for help, it can be frustrating and time-consuming.

3. 본문 2 (Body Paragraph 2) – 자신의 선택과 이유

-              자신의 토플라이팅 선택을 설명하고, 

구체적인 이유와 예시를 들어 뒷받침합니다.

In contrast, I believe that [Student A/B]'s approach is more effective.

One reason is that [explain the first reason for your choice].

For instance, [give a specific example or personal experience to support this reason].

Additionally, [mention another reason or benefit].

This is important because [explain why this is advantageous].

 

예시: In contrast, I believe that Student B's approach is more effective.

One reason is that group discussions often lead to a better understanding of complex topics.

For instance, when I study in a group, I can ask questions and get different perspectives,

which helps me grasp the material more clearly.

Additionally, explaining concepts to others reinforces my own learning.

This is important because it not only improves understanding but also builds communication skills,

which are essential in academic and professional environments.

4.        결론 (Conclusion)

-              자신의 토플라이팅 입장을 다시 요약하고, 

선택한 방법이 왜 더 나은지 간략하게 강조합니다.

In conclusion, although [Student A/B]'s argument has some merits,

I strongly believe that [your choice] is the better option.

[Restate your reasons briefly]. For these reasons, I would recommend

[your preferred choice] to anyone looking to [relate to the topic].

 

예시: In conclusion, although Student A's argument has some merits,

Group study promotes collaboration, deeper understanding, and better communication skills.

For these reasons, I would recommend group study to anyone looking to improve their learning process.

 

토플라이팅 팁:

1.        서론에서 두 의견을 공평하게 요약: 먼저 두 학생의 입장을 명확히 제시하고 자신의 의견을 마지막에 밝힙니다.

o   "One student believes that... However, the other student argues that..."

 

2.     반대 의견을 인정한  한계 지적: 상대 의견을 무시하지 않고 적절하게 인정한 후, 그 한계를 논리적으로 설명합니다.

o   "While this point is valid to some extent, I believe it has certain limitations because..."

 

3.     구체적인 이유와 예시 제시: 자신의 의견을 뒷받침하는 구체적인 사례나 경험을 포함하는 것이 중요합니다.

o   "For instance, when I studied in a group, I found that..."

 

4.     결론에서 핵심 요약  강조: 결론에서 다시 한 번 자신의 선택을 강조하면서 토플라이팅 글을 마무리합니다.

o   "For these reasons, I would recommend..."

 

 

 

TOEFL **통합형 과제(Integrated Writing Task)**는 

토플라이팅 지문과 듣기 자료를 바탕으로 두 정보를 비교하고, 

듣기 자료에서 제시된 주장을 요약하고 반박하는 방식입니다. 

이 과제는 요약 능력과 비교 분석 능력을 평가합니다.

1.     읽기 지문: 약 3분 동안 읽기 자료를 읽고, 문제에서 제시된 주장을 이해합니다.

2.     듣기 자료: 강의 형태로 제공되며, 읽기 지문에서 제시된 주장에 반대되는 내용을 다룹니다.

  1. 에세이 작성: 두 자료를 비교하여, 주로 듣기 자료의 주장을 요약하고 읽기 지문의 주장을 반박하는 방식으로 작성합니다.

 

마지막으로!

-              논리적인 전개: 각 토플라이팅 문단이 논리적으로 연결되도록 하고, 자신의 주장을 뒷받침하는 예시를 제시하세요.

-              시간 관리: 글을 작성할 때 시간 관리가 중요합니다. 

서론, 본문, 결론을 차례로 작성하면서 시간 안에 끝낼 수 있도록 연습하세요.

-              문법과 표현: 정확한 문법과 자연스러운 표현을 사용해 글을 매끄럽게 만드세요.
